Solution Tree’s Pyramid Response to Intervention July 25 & 26, 2011
About the Presenter: Austin Buffum, EdD, is former senior deputy superintendent of the Capistrano Unified School District, which enrolls more than 50,000 students in South Orange County, California. From experience gained in the classroom and administrative offices, Dr. Buffum now shares his in-depth knowledge with schools, districts, and state departments of education throughout the country and internationally. Dr. Buffum is coauthor of Pyramid Response to Intervention: RTI, Professional Learning Communities and How to Respond When Kids Don’t Learn and Generations at School. He also contributed to the anthology The Collaborative Administrator. He has worked with Solution Tree for the past 5 years delivering their standard 2-day trainings and presentations on Pyramid Response to Intervention. This tiered approach to RTI is centered on Professional Learning Communities at Work™ concepts and strategies to ensure every student receives the time and support necessary to succeed. Dr. Buffum also delivers workshops and presentations that provide the tools educators need to build and sustain PLCs. Dr. Buffum attended the Principals’ Center at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where he was greatly inspired by the work of its founder, Roland Barth. He later led Capistrano’s K–12 instructional program on an increasingly collaborative path toward operating as a PLC. During this process, 37 of the district’s schools were designated California Distinguished Schools and 11 received National Blue Ribbon recognition.
