Personnel Office By law, all school employees, volunteers, and anyone else who might have direct contact with our students (including teachers, food service staff, bus drivers, and construction personnel) must undergo a criminal history (CORI) check through the Department of Criminal Justice Information Services (DCJIS). The law requires that the form be completed in the presence of a CORI-authorized employee, who must verify identification by viewing a government-issued photo ID. A copy of this ID must be attached to the completed form and the CORI-authorized employee must sign the form as well. The Wayland Public Schools takes very seriously its responsibility not only to the students in our schools but also to our employees, volunteers, and others who work in our buildings. It is the policy of the Wayland Public Schools to ensure that the completed CORI request form be handled by the fewest people possible before it is submitted to the DCJIS and that all possible steps are being taken to protect your personal information. For your convenience, we have made it possible for you to complete your CORI request form and show your photo ID at any of our schools, the WSCP offices, and The Children's Way offices. The completed CORI request will be handled by one of the secretaries at each of these places and then sent to the Central Office, where the CORI Administrator will submit it electronically to the DCJIS. All of the secretaries at the above locations have completed an "Agreement of Non-Disclosure" form and have been approved by the DCJIS to handle CORI forms. Once reports are returned from the DCJIS, forms and reports are kept in a locked file in a locked office and are not available to anyone but the CORI Administrator. It is true that the CORI request form asks for some personal information, including your name, date of birth, drivers' license number, and mother's maiden name. This is for your protection; for example, another person may have the same name and date of birth as you or your identity may have been previously compromised. You have the option NOT to include your social security number on the form. If you feel strongly that your CORI request form be handled by only one person, please come to the Central Office in the Wayland Town Building at 41 Cochituate Road at the junction of Route 20 and Route 27 in Wayland. Ask for Sharon Batten, CORI Administrator. I will ensure that your CORI form is handled with the greatest of care. If you have questions or concerns about CORI or Wayland's handling of the forms, please feel free to call me at (508) 358-3773. Sharon Batten
