PTO President's Message
(from the most recent newsletter)

“Education is the ability to listen to almost anything
without losing your temper or your self-confidence.”
--Robert Frost

October 5 , 2011

It is hard to believe that September is already behind us! The leaves are changing, the weather is a bit cooler and fall schedules are in full swing. Those lazy days of summer are a distant memory. The PTO has been quite busy this past month and there are many activities coming in October also:

  • PTO Dues – Thank you to the hundreds of families that supported the PTO efforts at the Middle School this year by paying dues! It is not too late to turn in your PTO dues, volunteer forms and receive your Directory. Dues support the many items that the PTO provides to WMS including teacher mini-grants, new teacher stipends, a spring play grant, grade level activities, and more. We will be collecting dues at Back to School Night on Thursday.

  • PTO Meeting – Our kickoff meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 19th at 7 pm in the library. We are thrilled to have Wayland’s new Superintendent Dr. Stein with us for a discussion about the philosophy of the MS and the future direction of the school. Followed by questions and answer time.

  • Gift Wrap Sale – The Innisbrook Sale is under way! The deadline to turn in your order is October 12th. Please consider supporting this fundraiser…it is the main fundraiser for the MS PTO. Please see below for more information on the sale.

  • Many Thanks – To everyone who has already returned their parent volunteers forms. THANK YOU to the many volunteers who have made things go so smoothly for the PTO so far. Here are some of our accomplishments:

Beautification: Big thanks to Suzanne O’Regan for adding additional plants and maintaining the current ones at the entrance sign and the areas around the school including cleaning out the Herb Garden and the Bird Garden.

6th Grade Back to School Night Dinner – Thank you to Gretchen Dresens and Liza Knapp for jumping right in as excellent 6th Grade Reps and organizing a wonderful dinner and collating all the informative folders. Many thanks to the generous donations of time and culinary skills: Marie Durant, Joe Krabowski , Karen Blumberg, Susan Steneri, Susan Green, Molly Varnau, Beth Klien, Nadya Karasev, Jodi Levin, Cindi Jacobs, Maureen Daye, Lynne Cribben, Michele Tilley and Sarah Greenaway for their helpful contributions in keeping our hungry teachers fed on the 6th grade Back To School Night.

Walden Bike Trip: Good luck on the rides this week. Great job Gretchen and Liza working with the 6th Grade Cluster leaders to provide all the volunteers for snacks, and chaperones.

Innisbrook Fundraiser: Thank you Lynne Cribben for a wonderful kickoff to the sale and for the excellent display at school.

Booster Sales at the Middle School: Thanks to Jane Capasso, Sue Williams, Linda Hanifin and Lisa Masciocote for organizing and manning the table at the Back to School Night sale.

  • Communication - Please take advantage of the Middle School’s many communication vehicles:

- Check out the school website (www.wayland.k12.ma.us/middleschool)...there are many great links including one to the PTO pages.

- Sign up for list serve (www.wayland.k12.ma.us/listserv/suscribe) to get electronic notification of school related meetings and important news. It’s an excellent way to stay informed.

That is it for this month! Thank you again for all the wonderful support you give the PTO throughout the year. We truly could not do what we do without you! As always, please feel free to contact me with any comments or questions.
